How Important Is Clarity When Creating Content?

When you sit down to create a blog that you feel hits the points a reader will be looking for, sometimes, it can be easy to get away from yourself.

Basically, we can use words we know are industry specific, because we use them everyday, but what we sometimes forget is that our potential readers may have no clue what we are actually saying…and that my friends, is a bad thing.

When you write any piece of content, it is crucial to have your end reader in mind when creating that blog or article. When we create a post that answers a question a potential reader is asking, we will use language they are expecting to be in there organically, not just adding keywords to keep search engines happy.

What About Keywords?

The days of keyword stuffing are long gone. To be brutally honest, it’s a pretty cheesy way to get your traffic. Think about it, if you land on a page that is OBVIOUSLY trying to shove as many keywords onto a page so that it ranks, it’s pretty clear and tends to sound kind of ridiculous.

Write the Same Way You Would Speak

It’s almost always a safer bet to write how you would talk to someone in person. That kind of writing is the kind of writing that will showcase your company and what level it is at. If you are using someone to create your content, make sure you let them create in way that will make the reader comfortable with the information. Writing that is too technical just loses the reader and if you can’t engage the reader, you have missed the mark on why you have created the content in the first place.

Header Tags

Header Tags or H1 tags give the page some structure. For example: The H1 on our post here is, “How Important Is Clarity When Creating Content?”. This is the main header for the post. This (along with a title tag) will tell search engines what the page is about, but beyond that, it makes it easy for your reader to skim the page.

H2 tags follow along behind H1’s. Again, highlighting them along the way makes it easier for a reader to have a quick glance at what they will find on the page.

Remember, writing for search engines never really makes sense. If you write for your audience, search engines will respond favourably.

I know it’s tough, since all the tricks of SEO used to work once, but we need to put that Black Hat on the hook and go back to what we know makes sense…great content that serves is users!
