How Does My Energy Affect My Business?

December 05, 2014

This may be a bit of a departure from some of our other posts, I realize….nonetheless, here we go

Being the owner of a business can be a challenge. Obviously, otherwise we would all take that leap off the JOB cliff.

Staying focused and “positive” can also be tough when you are the person responsible for sales or growth for your company.

I spend a good amount time looking inside of myself to see what I am doing to create the life I want, and the company I want.

I know that the state of mind we are in does directly impact our outcome, of course there are the people in our society who disagree. The people who think stuff just “happens” to them or around them.

I am not one of those people. I feel like we have more control over how life goes for us than we are even aware.

I am a believer in “energy goes where attention flows” and it is the same in business.

Some ways this can be true in business?

  • MONEY IS ALL YOU CARE ABOUT

Well, this one to me is pretty simple. We need money, for sure, in North America anyway. It makes it so that you can pay your lodgings, feed your family, and stay clothed. So our relationship with money can either help us or hinder us. When you focus on making money and the task that needs to be accomplished in order to do that makes you unhappy, the odds are that the money won’t flow like it should. I know for me, I have been in sales since I was 18 years old. I CANNOT sell something I do not believe in. It just never happens for me. I would be razzled and dazzled by the MONEY and no matter how hard I tried, if I didn’t like what I had to do to make the sale, I would fail or be miserable (same thing). Focus on what makes you passionate, find the passion in what you are doing and the money will come. Don’t get me wrong, you can make money, but if that is your ONLY focus, you will like feel pretty unhappy!

  • BEING ANGRY

Well, this is something I know personally. I have lost both my parents in the last 8 years. Being angry was an internal way of life for me for a while. Still can be in some conditions;). If your focus is on “getting back” at someone in some way, an old boss that fired you, an old partner who “screwed” you out of money, or a parent who never believed in you…well, I think that’s a recipe for a pretty crappy outcome. Again, you can reach some level of success, but to be happy and cleared of all that negative junk, you really need to let go of negative emotions that are driving you. Imagine being in harmony with your past and future, there is a definite shift in how one feels and subsequently how one behaves. Your business will thank you for it.

  • DRIVEN BY FEAR

This one is pretty common too. “If I don’t succeed, people will judge me!”, “If I don’t make millions like I said I would, people will think I am a loser”. The fear of what others will think can and how they will judge can be paralyzing. I have seen some really good ideas dismissed because of fear. In fact some people, myself included once upon a time, are afraid of success. Yep, you got it. For me, I wondered if I deserved to be a success, and success can be different for everyone. I measured it by money, not happiness. Now I measure both. I want to have the funds to be able to help others, so that is one of the things that drives me. Giving to others in various ways makes us happy. Being driven by fear, well, it just makes you feel like sh^%. Be driven by what makes you feel alive and passionate, not fear. Fear isn’t sustainable. Eventually it will hurt you and your business.

So there you have it, some of my thoughts on how our energy can work for you or against you. I supposed at the end of the day, it is still ultimately up to you (or me). I know that when I really get in line with what “feels” good for me, great things start to happen.

If I tried to build a company because I was afraid, resentful, or pissed off….well, it just wouldn’t work.

Now, I operate from a different head space or energy field, which leaks into all other aspects of my life. It’s pretty amazing!

Until next time,

Cara
